Letters to our Children: April – Little Fisherman
It’s finally time for my boy to have his moment in the sun. I’ve been participating in a monthly blog circle writing letters to my daughter – and have been feeling bad that it hasn’t given me the opportunity to write about one of the sweetest boys in the world. So it gives me such joy to be teaming up with some of my favorite photographers each month in a new Letters to Our Children blog circle. After checking out the letter to my little man, visit the blog of the lovely Heather Spencer of Little Birdie Photography .
My darling Kai,
Do you know how proud I am of you? My first born. My boy with the gentle heart and eternal capacity for fun. To you, the world is your playground, and every child you meet ends up your friend. Though a little shy, your sweet, easy-going nature wins them all over. For the longest time you were our family Superhero. I think you were actually Spiderman for all of 2011. Now, you’ve moved on to Legos and ninjas, Playmobile and video games.
Fishing just might be your favorite pastime of them all, though. You spend hours with your friends on the rocks. Fishing and seeing what lies beneath – countless rock fish, crabs, and even a baby octopus have been trapped by your net or rod. You all run up, yelling and screaming, to have dad put the catch of the day into the saltwater aquarium – so you can watch them swim round and round. You love all animals, even your fish, with a fierce devotion. A few of your fishy friends have even passed on due to your overzealous petting of them. Yes, I know rock fish can live out of the water for a few minutes. It still doesn’t mean they like being pet like a puppy. You can’t seem to help yourself – you just want to share the love.
Sweet and loving, fun and playful – that’s who you are. But little buddy, you really must stop petting the fish. Okay?
Love always, Mommy
